Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 20, 2026
Relay Translator ("Relay", "we", "us") is a real-time translation service for travel conversations. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how it is handled. We collect only what is necessary to operate the service.
1. Data We Collect
Account information
When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google OAuth. We store your Google account ID as a stable identifier to save your preferences.
Preferences
Your preferred language and chosen theme are stored so they are restored on your next visit.
Location
If you grant permission, we record an approximate location (latitude and longitude) once per signed-in session. This is used to understand where Relay is being used geographically. Location is never shared with other participants.
Audio and conversation content
When you use Voice mode, your audio is streamed to our servers for transcription and translation. Audio is processed in real time and is not stored after transcription is complete. Transcribed and translated text is kept in session history for up to 7 days to support the conversation history feature, then deleted automatically.
Feedback
If you submit a comment through the feedback form, we store your name, email address, and comment text to allow us to follow up and improve the service.
Session data
Session identifiers, participant tokens, and connection metadata are stored temporarily to maintain active translation sessions. These are deleted when the session expires (typically within 24 hours).
2. How We Use Your Data
- Authenticate you and restore your preferences across visits
- Transcribe and translate your speech in real time
- Display conversation history within an active session
- Understand usage patterns to improve the service
- Respond to feedback you submit
- Send a confirmation email when you submit feedback
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties except as described in Section 3.
3. Third-Party Services
Relay relies on the following external services to operate. Each processes data only as necessary to perform its function.
4. Data Retention
5. Cookies and Local Storage
Relay uses browser session storage to hold your session token and language preference for the duration of a browser session. This data is cleared when you close the tab. We also use an HTTP-only cookie issued by NextAuth to maintain your signed-in state. No third-party tracking or advertising cookies are used.
6. Guests
Participants who join a session via QR code or link do not need to sign in. No account information is collected from guests. Their audio and transcripts are processed under the same terms as signed-in users and are subject to the same retention limits.
7. Your Rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us (see Section 9). Signing out removes your active session. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us directly.
8. Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Session tokens are short-lived and stored in HTTP-only cookies where possible. We do not store raw audio. Access to user data is restricted to the service operator.
9. Contact
If you have questions about this policy or want to exercise your data rights, please use the feedback form in the app or contact us at toshine6739@gmail.com.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects when changes were last made. Continued use of Relay after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
